Edmund Bartlett

Edmund Curtis Bartlett ( born December 3, 1950 in Westmoreland ) is a Jamaican politician of the Jamaica Labour Party ( JLP ). He was from 2007 to January 2012 Tourism Minister (Minister of Tourism ) of Jamaica.

Life

Edmund Bartlett was born on 3 December 1950 in Westmoreland, the son of Alexander Rudulf Bartlett and Olivia Lawson Bartlett. He attended St. Elizabeth Technical High School and studied at the University of the West Indies. Professionally, he had worked as a senior accountant of Revere Alumina Jamaica Ltd.. worked, he was Vice President of the World Conference on Cultural Policies and Vice- Chairman of the UN International Youth Year consultants committee. Most recently, he worked as a Marketing Sales Manager of Texaco Caribbean Inc. He is the founder of the Jamaica Foundation for Children. Bartlett is married and has two children.

Policy

Bartlett was elected to the House of Representatives as a candidate for the JLP in the constituency of St. Andrew Eastern 1989. He was at times also appointed senator. During the JLP government under Prime Minister Edward Seaga Bartlett has been in the late 1980 Minister of Youth and Community Development and Minister of State (Minister of State for Information, Broadcasting and Culture ). Since the general election in 2002 he represents the constituency of St. James East Central in the House of Representatives, which he won for the JLP in 2007. In the election on December 29, 2011, he was able to defend his position again, the final decision in his constituency did not come until a recount of the vote on 9 January 2012.

Bartlett, who was already active as an opposition spokesman on tourism policy before 2007, was appointed after the election victory of the JLP on 3 September 2007 as Minister of Tourism and sworn in on 14 September 2007. He remained minister until January 6, 2012. Since 19 January 2012, he acts as an opposition spokesman for tourism policy.
