Edmund Davy

Edmund Davy (* 1785, † November 5, 1857 ) was an Irish chemist.

He was since 1813 a professor of chemistry at the Royal Cork Institution and since 1826 at the Royal Dublin Society.

Davy discovered the catalytic action of platinum sponge, rust protection by galvanizing and synthesized the first ethyne ( acetylene, as it was named by Marcellin Berthelot ).

Edmund Davy was an English chemist Humphry Davy of the cousin.
