Edmund Tudor, Duke of Somerset

Edmund Tudor ( born February 21, 1499 Palace of Greenwich, † June 19, 1500 in Hatfield ) was the third son of King Henry VII and Elizabeth of York. He was baptized on February 24 in the Grey Friar 's Church, and after his grandfather Edmund Tudor, 1st Earl of Richmond named. Edmund was given the title Duke of Somerset ( Duke of Somerset ), but was never formally charged in a ceremony to do so.

He lived with his older siblings Henry, later King Henry VIII, Margaret and Mary, mostly at Eltham Castle, where was the royal nursery. In the summer of 1499 when Edmund was a few months old, the famous humanist Erasmus of Rotterdam, the royal children attended there. Edmund died for unknown reasons already one year old, while his parents were staying for negotiations in English -occupied Calais and was buried in Westminster Abbey. The funeral procession for him led Edward Stafford, Duke of Buckingham.
