Edson (Alberta)

Edson [ ɛdsən ] is a small town in Alberta, Canada, approximately 200 km west of Edmonton. The city, which was called to 1911 Heatherwood was named after Edson J. Chamberlain, the vice chairman of the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway was.

The town had originally importance as a railway system on the route between Edmonton and Hinton. Edson is located on Highway 16 ( Yellowhead Route ), which was expanded in the 1950s and today is one of the busiest routes in Alberta. The local industry is mainly composed of coal mining, natural gas, forestry and the manufacture of products for the construction industry. Edson is located in a landscape that is characterized by boreal forest, sandy hills and swamps.
