Eduard Brunner

Eduard Brunner (* July 14, 1939 in Basel) is a Swiss clarinetist and university professor.

Life

Brunner studied at the Conservatory in Basel and later with Louis Cahuzac in Paris. From 1959 he began working as a soloist and chamber musician, especially in Germany and in Switzerland a successful career. 1962 and 1963 he was principal clarinetist with the Bremen Philharmonic, since 1963 of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under Rafael Kubelik. As a very sought-after soloist and chamber music player, he has worked on numerous boards and CD recordings. An example is the 2011 released CD Music for Solo Clarinet from the year 2011.

Now (2012 ) Brunner is a professor at the Academy of Music in Saarbrücken and Karlsruhe.

Thanks to his initiative many compositions for clarinet have emerged, including: concerts by Cristóbal Halffter and Krzysztof Meyer and chamber music works by Edison Denisov, Augustyn Bloch and Toshio Hosokawa. Through its close cooperation with Helmut Lachenmann at the premiered works by him Dal niente (1970 ) for solo clarinet, Accanto ( 1975-76 ) for clarinet and orchestra, and the Trio Allegro sostenuto ( 1986-88 ), he contributed greatly to the development of new playing techniques on his instrument at.

In 2012 he was awarded the Echo Klassik German music award in the category of Instrumentalist of the Year (clarinet ) published by Naxos with his album Music for solo clarinet.
