Eduard Ichon

Eduard Ichon (* December 27, 1879 in Bremen, † January 19, 1943 in Bremen ) was a director and theater director.

Life

Ichon, son of Theodor Ichon (* November 9, 1844; † September 13, 1917 ) and Marie Ichon, nee Holler (* September 20, 1890, † May 5, 1923 ) and grandson of the wealthy entrepreneur Louis Eduard Ichon, visited the Old gymnasium in Bremen. He studied at the Friedrich- Wilhelms- University of Berlin, the Ruprecht -Karls- University of Heidelberg and the Ludwig- Maximilians- University of Munich history, literature and art history. In 1907 he received his doctorate with Professor Erich Marcks in Munich Dr. phil. and subsequently qualified as a professor with a theme about Friedrich Hebbel. He wanted to pursue a scientific career.

To 1910, Ichon then turned to the practical theater work. Planned together with John Wiegand and in the same year he founded the Bremen Theatre, located initially in the converted Tonhalle ( Concert Hall built in 1853, later Modern ) was in the Neustadt am Neustadtswall. The first director was Wiegand, while Ichon worked as a director.

From 1912 to 1913, the two were on Arminius in the city center designed by the architect August Abbehusen and Otto Blendermann create a theater building, which represents the core of the theater course at the Goethe in Bremen today. Opened in 1913, the house with a performance of Oscar Wilde's A Woman of No Importance.

Ichon staged many classical plays in a new form and modern problem plays and gained such notoriety as a director. In 1920, Ichon the community theater, supported by the Goethe Federal Government and the Civil Service Association.

According to Wiegand's death Ichon took over from 1940 until his death in 1943, the head of the entire theater. Ichon was on the Rien Berger Cemetery in Bremen buried ( grave Location: V 497/498 ).

Family

His son was the lawyer Dr. Ichon, since 1950 in the Villa Ichon the theater space at the Goethe had his law firm. His brother Dr. Theodor Ichon ( born October 24, 1880 † 5 July 1967) was a partner of the real estate company Ariade.

Honors

  • The Ichonstraße in Bremen- Kattenturm was named after him.
