Eduardas Rozentalis

Eduardas Rozentalis ( born May 27, 1963 in Vilnius) is a Lithuanian chess master. He is a multiple of Lithuanian champion and carries since 1991 the title of Grand Master.

Life and career

Eduardas Rozentalis learned as a seven -year-old to play chess by his Jewish -born parents who were themselves masters player: his mother Ilana Epšteinaitė - Rozentalienė was two-time national champion of Lithuania (1962 and 1964 ), his father was as a youth national team. He is a student Isakas Vista Eckis and has already achieved numerous successes as a teenager. In 1981 he was national champion in 1983, he played for the first time with a semifinal at the USSR Championship. Between 1984 and 1989 he took six times at the -annual, heavily occupied USSR Young Masters tournaments for players under 26 years part, three of which he (1984, 1985, 1987 ) could win. In 1990, he played in his first Open tournament Geneva abroad and won it. In the following years he took part with good results in numerous tournaments; among other things, he came in 1997 at the traditional tournament in Hastings on the shared first place. Among his best results is also winning the Open in Cappelle- la -Grande in February 2002 with 7.5 points from 9 games. In 1991, he played for the first time in the chess Bundesliga for SV 03 /25 Koblenz. Later, he occasionally plays for the SK Zahringen and the SV Castrop -Rauxel, starting in 2006 for the TV Tegernsee. In the Austrian Bundesliga first he plays for the SK Hohenems. He also played in Greek, Israeli and Polish Team Championships. For Polonia Warsaw he took in 2000, 2001 and 2002 at the European Championships for club teams participate. From 1992, he played in seven Chess Olympiads on top board for Lithuania, scoring 39 points in 74 games ( 20 wins, 16 defeats and 38 draws). In the FIDE World Chess Championship 1997, he dropped out in the second round against Sergey Tiviakov, 1999, he lost in the first round against Levon Aronian.

To his preferred opening repertoire also includes the Spanish Exchange Variation and the Russian defense.

His Elo rating is 2573 (as of May 2011), making it the second best player of Lithuania Šarūnas Sulskis. His previous highest Elo rating was 2650 in January 1997.
