Algimantas Butnorius

Algimatas Butnorius ( born November 20, 1946 in Kaunas) is a Lithuanian chess player.

Butnorius won in 1967, 1970, 1973, 1975, 1976, 1980, 1982 and 1993, the championship of Lithuania. In 1983 he became an International Master. His achievements at the international level, he won at an advanced age. In 2007 he won the silver medal, which he followed in the same year at the Senior World Championships in Gmunden the World Champion title at the European Veterans Championships in Hockenheim. As the 17th Senior World Champion (before and Vlastimil Jansa Yevgeny Wasjukow ), he also received the same time the Grandmaster title.

For the Lithuanian national Butnorius participated in three Chess Olympiads ( 2000, 2004 and 2006) and two European Championships team (1999 and 2003) in part.

His current Elo rating is 2378 (as of April 2014), in July 1999, he reached his highest ever Elo rating of 2456th
