Eduardo Mateo

Ángel Eduardo Mateo López ( born September 19, 1940 in Montevideo, † 16 May 1990) was an Uruguayan musician and composer.

Mateo, whose musical range spanned in his works, among others, to Bossa Nova and Candombe, worked together with other artists such as Horacio Buscaglia, Rubén Rada, Estela Magnone or group El Kinto and was an important figure in the development of modern Uruguayan music.

He came from a musical family in which many members of the family especially in the Uruguayan Carnival and Murga were musically active. In this way he came early with the black music of Uruguay as the candombe in contact. In 1957 he joined the group El Bando de Orfeo, 1964, he joined the Los Malditos. Also found performances held at the Teatro Solís and Teatro Odéon with the Conciertos beat. There followed a period at El Kinto, though not published in the plates until the dissolution of the group, the recorded material, however, was 1/2 and Circa 1968 later published under the name Musicación 4. In the 1970s, Mateos life began to be problem- laden. This led in the 1980s also numerous arrests and prison sentences for possession of drugs and their consumption. At that time he was in 1972 as a solo artist active.
