Educational Testing Service

The Educational Testing Service (ETS ) is a US-based non-profit company that offers standardized testing methods in education. Founded in 1947, ETS today is the worldwide leader in the field of so-called " test industry." The company is headquartered near Princeton (New Jersey). The most common tests offered by ETS are the English test and the TOEFL exam to SAT.

ETS develops its standardized tests primarily for the U.S. and leads international tests in over 180 countries and 9,000 locations around the world, including TOEFL ( Test of English as a Foreign Language), TOEIC ( Test of English for International Communication), GRE (Graduate Record Examinations ) General and Subject Tests and The Praxis Series tests. Total ETS leads 20 million tests worldwide.

In the U.S., ETS is highly regarded among academics: researchers move between employments on ETS and university positions, and employees of the ETS regularly publish articles in journals such as Psychometrika. Sometimes, however, the quasi-monopoly of the company is criticized in this area.
