Edward Archibald (athlete)

Edward Archibald ( Edward Blake " Ed" Archibald, born March 29, 1884 in Toronto, † March 20, 1965 Toronto ) was a Canadian pole vaulter.

At the 1906 Summer Olympics he finished tenth with 2.75 m. He had lost his stick during the train ride through Italy and had to jump with a borrowed device that broke and nearly impaled him. In the pentathlon same games he finished seventh.

At the Olympic Games in London in 1908, he shared the bronze medal with Charles Jacobs and Bruno Söderström. All three had 3.58 m crosses, while the joint winner Edward Cook and Alfred Gilbert mastered 3.71m.

Edward Archibald was from 1907 to 1909 three times Canadian champion and 1908 British champion in the pole vault. In 1908 he was also national champion in the hammer throw.
