Edward Caird

Edward Caird ( born March 23, 1835 in Greenock, † November 1, 1908 ) was a Scottish philosopher. He was brother of the theologian John Caird.

Edward Caird was born in Greenock in Renfrewshire and got his education at the Greenock Academy, Glasgow and Oxford University. He taught at Merton College, Oxford. In 1866 he became professor of moral philosophy at the University of Glasgow. There he worked until 1893. Subsequently, he went to Balliol College, Oxford, where he worked until 1907.
