Edward Dannreuther

Edward George ( e) Dannreuther (* November 4, 1844 in Strasbourg, † February 12, 1905 in Hastings ) was an English pianist and music teacher of German origin.

Dannreuther was 1859-1863 student of Ignaz Moscheles, Moritz Hauptmann and Ernst Friedrich Richter at the Leipzig Conservatory. In 1863 he moved to England, gave piano lessons and made there as a pianist, among other known concertos by Liszt, Tchaikovsky and Grieg. From 1895 he taught as a professor of piano at the Royal Academy of Music. To Dannreuther pupils included William Hurlstone and Hubert Parry.

As a committed Wagnerian he founded in 1872 the London Wagner Society and conducted until 1874 their concerts. Dannreuther writings translated into English and Wagner himself was working as an author, such as the author of two-volume ornament teaching Musical Ornamentation (London, 1893 - 1895).
