Edward Haughey, Baron Ballyedmond

Edward Enda Haughey, Baron Ballyedmond OBE ( born January 5, 1944 in Kilcurry in Dundalk, † March 13, 2014 in Gillingham in Beccles, Norfolk ) was a Northern Irish politician and entrepreneur.

Life

Haughey founded in 1969, the pharmaceutical company Norbrook focusing on veterinary medicine, which today is one of the largest companies in Northern Ireland. Another business segment were Haugheys air travel, especially by helicopter. From 2000 to 2006 he Carlisle Lake District Airport was in Irthington, Cumbria. In 1994 he acquired the nearby Corby Castle.

From 1993 to 2002 Haughey was a member of the Irish Senate. There he was a member of Fianna Fáil Group. He was the second richest person in Northern Ireland, seventh richest in Ireland and 174reichste in the UK. Haughey was also Honorary Consul of Chile. In 2004 he was elevated to Life Peer and moved from the Ulster Unionist Party to the Tories.

On March 13, 2014 Haughey died along with three other people in a helicopter crash in Gillingham, Norfolk. At the time of the crash ruled bad weather conditions.

Family

Haughey was married in 1972 and fathered two children.
