Beccles

Beccles is a British small town in Suffolk, East Anglia ( East Anglia ), England.

Beccles is situated in the Waveney District, at Broad River system, about 15 km west of East Anglian North Sea coast of Lowestoft, 26 km south of Norwich, the county seat of neighboring Norfolk, 53 km north-east of Ipswich, the county seat of Suffolk, and 158 km north-east of the UK capital London.

In early Anglo-Saxon period, the city was an important port because of its location on the river Waveney. 1584 got Beccles of Elizabeth I granted town rights.

Beccles has (according to UK Census 2001 ) 9746 inhabitants.

Famous residents

Catherine Suckling and Edmund Nelson, parents of the future Admiral Horatio Nelson married in 1749 in Beccles, and lived there for several years before his birth.
