Edward M. Beers

Edward McMath Beers ( born May 27, 1877 in Nossville, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, † April 21, 1932 in Washington DC ) was an American politician. Between 1923 and 1932 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Edward Beers attended the public schools of his home. In 1889, he moved with his parents to Mount Union. After the death of his father in 1895 he succeeded him in the hotel industry. He also worked in agriculture. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. In 1898 he was a delegate part of the regional Republican convention for Pennsylvania. Between 1910 and 1914 Beers was mayor of Mount Union. He was also a board member of First National Bank of Mount Union, and at the company Grange Trust Co. of Huntingdon. Between 1914 and 1923 he served as an Associate Justice in Huntingdon County.

In the congressional elections of 1922, Beers was elected in the 18th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, where he became the successor of Aaron Shenk Kreider on March 4, 1923. After four elections he could remain until his death on 21 April 1932 at the Congress. Since 1929 the work of the Congress was determined by the events of the Great Depression.
