Edward Michelis

Eduard Michelis ( born February 6, 1813 in Münster St. Mauritz, . † June 8, 1855 in Luxembourg ) was a German Catholic theologian.

Life

Eduard Michelis born the son of engraver and drawing teacher at St. Mauritz. Since October 1826, he attended the gymnasium and studied the Pauline 1832-1835 philosophy and theology at the Academy of Münster. After entering the Roman Catholic Seminary in 1835 was ordained on May 27, 1836 23 years as a priest. In the same year he became private and Geheimersekretär of Clemens August von Droste- Vischering the Archbishop of Cologne. On November 20, 1837 he was arrested along with his bishop in the Cologne turmoil. He came first in the fortress of Minden and later in the Citadel of Magdeburg on the island of Werder, where he was detained until April 1840. Subsequently, he was " exiled " to Erfurt, where he lived a long time with the Cathedral Parish Priest. After his release in 1841 he returned to St. Mauritz. The following year he founded the Sisters of Divine Providence, which were initially responsible for an orphanage, which still exists today. He founded together with Wilhelm Junkmann the " Münstersche Sunday paper ." In 1844, he was until his death as professor of dogmatic theology at the seminary in Luxembourg. He co-founded the newspaper Luxemburger Wort.
