Edward Norris

Septimus Edward Norris ( born March 10, 1911 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, † 18 December 2002 in Fort Bragg, California ) was an American film actor.

Life

Edward Norris 1911 was born into a respected, Philadelphia-based family and attended the Culver Military Academy in Indiana. After he was for a time worked as a newspaper reporter, he began in the early 1930s his career in film. He had his first screen appearance as an extra in Rouben Mamoulians Drama Queen Christina (Queen Christina, 1933) with Greta Garbo in the title role. Louis B. Mayer at MGM then took him under contract to build him as a romantic hero for his studio. However, when the young Robert Taylor also signed a contract with MGM and was quickly established as an idol, Mayer gave up his plans for Norris and cast him in the following years as crooks or gangsters in numerous B- movies.
