The Edward River is a river in south-west of the Riverina region in the southern Australian state of New South Wales. He is a northern tributary of the Murray River.

Cadell Fault

Years ago, about 25,000 extending in a north-south direction tectonic fault originated in the area between today's cities Echuca and Deniliquin, which prevented the Murray River in its course to the west. So the Murray River flowed to the north around the tectonic fault and created the bed of the present Edward River. The Goulburn River was also dammed, forming a lake. Later, the lake's waters broke through the tectonic fault and ran across the old bed of the Goulburn River from. The Murray River joined this run, making its present bed was. Around 1/ 3 of the water of the Murray River now runs through the old river bed of the Goulburn River ( this is the new of the Murray River ), while 2/3 drain on the Edward River.

River

The river branches in Picnic Point as a result of the Cadell Fault from the Murray River to the north and flows through the eucalyptus forest to Deniliquin. There he spent his run to the northwest, parallel to the Murray River. It runs through bushland to the small town Kyalite where the Wakool River empties into it. About 15 km further west, at Haysdale, he meets again on the main branch of the Murray River.
