Edward Salisbury Dana

Edward Salisbury Dana ( born November 16, 1849 in New Haven (Connecticut), † June 16, 1935, ibid ) was an American mineralogist.

His father was James Dwight Dana. He studied at Yale University, where he 1870 AB graduated, studied in 1872 at the Sheffield Scientific School of Yale University in New Haven, 1873 in Heidelberg and later in Vienna. In 1874, he graduated to the A.M. and then became a tutor and researcher at the mineralogical cabinet at Yale College. In 1875 he authored a textbook of mineralogy, and was co-editor of Silliman 's American Journal of Science. In 1876 he received his doctorate in New Haven to Dr. phil. and in 1879 assistant professor of natural philosophy. Since 1885 he was curator of the Peabody Museum, and from 1890 professor of physics at Yale University. In 1917 he became Professor Emeritus. He was a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
