Edward Seymour, 1st Earl of Hertford

Edward Seymour, 1st Earl of Hertford (* May 22, 1539, † April 6, 1621 ) was an English nobleman.

Edward was the son of Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset, and his second wife Anne Stanhope, and thus a nephew of Queen Jane Seymour. The title of the Duke of Somerset had been deprived of his father, who had determined that all the other titles and goods should pass to his descendants from the second marriage.

Edward Seymour was raised in 1558 to the Earl of Hertford.

In November 1560 Earl married without the permission of Queen Lady Catherine Grey. The marriage was annulled on 12 May 1561 and both imprisoned in the Tower. Moreover, Edward had to pay because of " seduction of a virgin of royal blood " a fine. The marriage had two sons:
