Edward William Brayley

Edward William Brayley ( born September 28, 1801 in London, † February 1, 1870 in London ) was an English geographer.

His father was the antiquary and topographer Edward Wedlake Brayley ( 1773-1854 ). He went first in the company of his brothers Henry and Horatio in teaching. Later studied at the London Institution and the Royal Institution at Michael Faraday and William Thomas Brande. He then became a teacher and librarian in 1834 at the London Institution. In 1854 he was elected to the Royal Society. In 1865 he became professor of physical geography and meteorology at the London Institution.

He was co-editor of the Annals of Philosophy, of the Zoological Journal and the Philosophical Magazine. According to him, the moon crater Brayley was named.
