Edwin Villafuerte

Edwin Alberto Villafuerte Posligua ( born March 12, 1979 in Guayaquil ) is an Ecuadorian footballer ( goalkeeper).

Career

Club football

Villafuerte played since the 1997 season at Barcelona SC Guayaquil in his native Ecuador. In 1998 he made ​​his Erstligadebüt, but remained in the squad number 2 goalkeeper behind goalkeeper Jose Francisco Cevallos. After an injury of Cevallos he went on in the 2004 season for goalkeeper and was named after the Copa América 2004 goalkeeper of the national team. However, in the 2005 season, he had it hard to permanently enforce the Association against the convalescent and Barcelona SC returned Cevallos. In early 2006, he moved on loan to Deportivo Quito, where he was first-choice goalkeeper in the 2006 season. For the 2007 season, he returned to Barcelona. In February 2007, he fell ill with dengue fever, but was able to continue his career soon. After only number 2 remained behind the Argentine Gastón Sessa at Barcelona in the 2007 season, he moved on to the 2008 season to CD Olmedo Riobamba. Due to an injury he had to pause there almost the entire first half of the season. In the 2009 season he moved to Técnico Universitario Ambato.

National

Villafuerte played for the U17, U20 and U23 national teams of Ecuador. In 1995 he took part in the U- 17 World Cup. In the national team he was used since his debut on 5 September 2004 at the World Cup qualifier in Uruguay so far 15 times. It was during qualifying for the 2006 World Cup, the most distinguished goalkeeper. Among other things, he stood by the victories over Argentina and Brazil in the gate. Meanwhile, he was replaced by Cristian Mora as a goalkeeper. He stood as the second goalkeeper in the squad of Ecuador for the 2006 World Cup, but was not used. Since then he has played no matches.
