Eglisau–Neuhausen railway line

The railway line Eglisau - Neuhausen is the last section of the railway line Zurich - Bülach - Schaffhausen, which was opened on 1 June 1897 by the Swiss Northeastern Railway (NOB ). The route runs between Rafz and Neuhausen over German territory, but shall nonetheless be subject to the Swiss rail regulations and the Swiss domestic tariff.

History

Schaffhausen is indeed connected to the Swiss railway network since 1857, but the time opened Rheinfallbahn via Winterthur. Because they no longer corresponded mainly as Gotthard shuttle to the needs, the Swiss Northeastern Railway decided to build a more direct route. Since the new route leads through German territory Lottstetten Jestetten and was completed on May 21, 1875 between Switzerland and the Grand Duchy of Baden a treaty, which regulates the construction and operation of the line.

These branches in Neuhausen of the Rheinfallbahn and follows the northern bank of the Rhine, with four major engineering works were necessary before the border. These are the 144 meter-long tunnel Neuhausen, an 82-meter long bridge Schweizerhof I, the 84-meter long bridge Schweizerhof II and the 112 -meter-long tunnel Fischerhölzli. Then the three lying on German territory Stations Altenburg- Rheinau, Jestetten and Lottstetten follow. Immediately after the Swiss territory Lottstetten railway station is reached again. The following are the two stations Rafz and Hüntwangen -Wil, then crossed the line with the 440 -meter-long Egli Auer bridge the Rhine. In Eglisau the route adjoins the railway line Winterthur - Bülach -Koblenz, which was opened on August 1st 1876. Their section between Eglisau and Bülach was developed in connection with the railway construction to Schaffhausen on double track. The line kilometering is related to Winterthur. But it is the actual continuation, opened by the Bülach Rain mountain railway on May 1, 1865 Oerlikon railway Bülach.

On December 15, 1928, the electrical operating with 15,000 volts and 16.7 Hz between Zurich and Schaffhausen could be included.

The second main track between Schaffhausen and Neuhausen was not created until 1929-1930, but it was officially opened as a continuous double track until September 1, 1931. This is because the first station entrance had to be adjusted. For the upper gate had to exit the tracks from the train station of Schaffhausen towards Neuhausen for the two routes (DB and SBB) from two to four tracks can be expanded. This development work was completed only in the course of the year 1931.

The distance between Hüntwangen -Wil and Rafz was expanded to double track from 29 May 2009, which was taken in late 2010. With the opening of the double track Jestetten South Fischerhölzli (both service stations ) was the continuous half hour be included in the long-distance transport between Schaffhausen and Zurich in December 2012. The others in the double track expansion boisterous routes be left mainly because of their engineering structures, since in a development very high expenditure would have to be operated. The lack of double -track section Rafz - Jestetten South, is still in the pure Planungsstatium, on any priority list and without assured funding, and therefore without homes manufactured.

Due to poor frequency and in favor of the double-track extension and a future breakpoint in the center of Neuhausen Bahnhof Altenburg -Rheinau is no longer operated since 2011 timetable change.

Operation

Today travels the two -hourly Intercity Zurich - Singen- Stuttgart or a Interregio Zurich Schaffhausen and about half an hour puts a RegioExpress Zurich - Bülach - Schaffausen. The transport consists of the hourly free lines S5 Pfäffikon- Zurich - top smooth Rafz and S22 Bülach - Schaffhausen -Singen S-Bahn Zurich. The two S -Bahn lines complement each other between Bülach and Rafz to a slightly limping half hour. With the fourth part of additions to the S -Bahn Zurich, the S9 will replace the S5 and S22 and convert between Bülach and Rafz every half hour ( in rush hours also to Schaffhausen ).

Transit freight trains from the goods station Kornwestheim over the Gotthard use this route. The gravel pits in Rafzerfeld generate numerous sidings between Hüntwangen and Rafz a large rail traffic by sending gravel by rail and filling the mined gravel pits with excavated material from large construction sites throughout the canton of Zurich in unit trains.
