The EHC Bregenzerwald is an Austrian ice hockey club from Vorarlberg who plays in the Inter - National - League, the second highest Austrian Hockey League.

History

Founded in 1985, the EHC Bregenzerwald played in the Vorarlberg State class or in hobby leagues. In the 1998/99 season as they managed Vorarlberg state champion promotion to the Regionalliga, since the re-division of the league before the 2001/ 02 season, playing the Vorarlberg in the National League. The biggest success so far - a semi-final - was achieved in the 2002/03 season.

The EHCBW was the last club in the National League in Austria, which is still played up to the 2011/12 season in an outdoor arena. The "crater " as the arena was jokingly referred to by opposing fans, has already let so many great side trip. The downside was that as snow falls in the Bregenz Forest, the playability of the ice was often not guaranteed. Ice master and helpers had to spend a lot of time to ensure the game running in deep winter. As the arena Alberschwende was closed in 2012, under cooperation with the city of Dornbirn Dornbirn and the EC, the possibility was found to handle the game operation of the 2012/13 season in the Exhibition Stadium Dornbirn.

After initial difficulties at the beginning of the 2012/13 season, the EHC Bregenzerwald played a successful regular season and reached the only team from Vorarlberg the play-offs. In the semifinals, this play-offs EHC defeated the EK Zell am See in the best- of-five series 3-2, reaching the INL - finals. There, the EHC Bregenzerwald defeated the HK Slavija Ljubljana in the best- of-five series also 3-2, which meant the biggest success in club history.
