Eiji Osawa

Eiji Osawa (Japanese大 沢 英 二, Eiji Osawa, * 1935 in Toyama prefecture, Japan) is a Japanese chemist who in 1970 postulated the existence of the fullerene molecule and calculated.

Life and work

Osawa completed his studies in 1960 at Kyoto University with a Master of Engineering, where he subsequently received his doctorate in 1965. After a period as a research associate at Princeton University, 1970 he was Associate Professor at the Faculty of Science at the University of Hokkaido.

After research stays in Germany at the University of Karlsruhe in 1991 he took up an appointment at the Toyohashi University of Technology, where he became Professor Emeritus in 2001.

. Thereafter, he founded the Nano Carbon Research Institute Ltd. In 2002, the Chunichi Cultural Prize it was awarded.
