Eijsden

Eijsden ( listen? / I ) is a former Dutch municipality of the province of Limburg and had on 31 December 2010 as declared by the CBS 11,565 inhabitants. On 1 January 2011 Eijsden was merged with the municipality of Margraten Margraten - Eijsden.

Location and economic

Eijsden located on the Meuse in the extreme south of the province of Limburg, between Maastricht and the Belgian places Visé and Voeren. The creek empties into Voer Eijsden into the Meuse.

The A2 Maastricht -Liège motorway crosses the area. Eijsden has a station on the railway line between Maastricht - Liege. However there since 2006 hold for logistical reasons, no more trains. The community has been trying in vain to let take the station back into service.

In Eijsden many commuters who work in Maastricht live. Further, Agriculture, horticulture and fruit growing and tourism of economic importance. The chemical factory in Eijsden, which is prepared from locally existing rock zinc oxide is controversial, because of the environmental impact.
