Eilert Määttä

Yngve Eilert Määttä ( born September 22, 1935 in Kiruna; † 7 May 2011 Södertälje ) was a Swedish professional ice hockey player and coach.

Career

Eilert Määttä began his career as a hockey player with the Skellefteå AIK, for the first team he from 1956 to 1963 in Division 1, the then highest Swedish league, atkviw ar. Then he played another nine years for his league rivals Södertälje SK, where he in 1972 at the age of 37 years ended his active career.

In the 1978/79 season Määttä served as head coach of Djurgårdens IF of the Elitserien.

Internationally

For Sweden Määttä participated in the Winter Olympic Games 1964 in Innsbruck, where he won the silver medal with his team. In addition, he was in his country's squad at the World Championships in 1957, 1962, 1963, 1965 and 1967. At the World Championships in 1957 and 1962, he won with his team the gold medal each. As the best European team Sweden was also each European champions. At the World Championships in 1963 and 1967 he won the silver at the 1965 World Championships bronze medal with his team.
