Eimer's organ

The Eimersche organ is a named after Theodor bucket sensor system of the mole, with which it can perceive not only tactile stimuli, but also electrical stimuli. This means that the weak electric fields can be felt that arise in the muscle movement of the prey.

Description

On the skin of hairless nose of the mole, there are regularly arranged, individually protruding papillary. These are each an epithelial, which is supplied by two different nerves, as well as three to five Merkel cell receptors and free nerve fibers. In the middle of each Epithelzapfens runs a somewhat stronger nerve fiber, having about 2.5 microns in diameter, whose circumference is surrounded by about 20 thinner nerve fibers with 1.0 to 1.5 microns in diameter, which are oriented perpendicular to the skin surface and having a button-like extension end.
