Kölner Haie (1972-2000)

The ice and swimming stadium, Cologne was a combined system of ice rink and swimming pool in the inner Cologne greenbelt. It was built and operated by the Linde AG as a demonstration plant for their heating and cooling technology.

The stadium was the home ground of the Kölner Haie in the Hockey League and a DEL Club and was known as the ice rink at the Lentstraße.

History

The ice and swimming stadium Cologne was opened on 12 December 1936. In the same year, the Cologne Eisklub was founded, which was the most important users of the stadium with its departments hockey, figure skating and speed skating. By 1964, the stadium, which offered 7,200 spectators, was not covered. 1955 found here matches the Ice Hockey World Championships, in 1956 and 1978, the German Figure Skating Championships. To - or expansions there were 1960, 1964, 1968 and 1975.

After his elimination from Cologne EK 1972, the Bundesliga club Cologne Sharks wore their home games in the stadium at the Lentstraße and celebrated here seven championships. In October 1998, the Sharks moved to their home games at the newly opened, larger and more modern Cologne Arena (now Lanxess Arena) in the Deutz district around, but still trained on the Lentstraße. Two years later, the new training hall (Cologne Arena 2 ) of the sharks was completed diagonally opposite the Cologne Arena, the KEC, the ice rink at the Lentstraße left completely.

Other Events at the ice rink included the Mayday in 1992 with more than 15,000 visitors, and the rotation of a crime scene film 2004.

The ice rink was last used mainly for public skating operation. On January 1, 2007, we moved from Cologne sporting venues GmbH to KölnBäder GmbH.

Demolition and construction

On 15 March 2007, the ice rink, the roof was constructed of timber trusses, closed due to the danger of collapse (see also ice skating rink in Bad Reichenhall ). The building complex was demolished by June to September 2008.

In May 2009 the company began the construction of a combined ice and swimming pool and lido and thus the construction of a far -off Germany, located on the first floor, ice - elevated railway. On October 1, 2011, Eishochbahn, the ice rink and the indoor pool was opened under the name Lentpark.
