Location of the railway barracks in Bavaria

The railway was a military barracks property in Munich, which was built from 1888 to 1889 and existed from 1890 to 1976.

Location

The " barracks element of the railway battalion " was located east of the Dachau road, north of the barracks Barack Apartments Oberwiesenfeld. Today is located on the site on the western edge of the Olympic Park the buildings of the military administrative center of Munich.

History

Originally and chiefly the barracks was used by the railway battalion of the Bavarian army, which had been transferred in 1890 from Ingolstadt to Munich.

From the late 1950s, the barracks was used by the Bundeswehr. In the 1970s, a part of the land was sold for the construction of the Olympic Park. Other old buildings had to build the data center of the German Armed Forces, the administration building of the Wehrbereichsverwaltung VI (now the Munich branch Wehrbereichsverwaltung SÜD ) soft and today's canteen building.

After the Military District Command VI had moved into the forest man barracks, mid -1970s, other parts of the terrain between the Hedwig- Dransfeld Avenue and Schwere-Reiter -Straße were sold to the City of Munich for the construction of residential buildings.

Today, among others, the field office Munich Wehrbereichsverwaltung SÜD located on the site of the old railway barracks (formerly Wehrbereichsverwaltung VI), the Medical Office of the Bundeswehr ( since 2002), the Bundeswehr Disciplinary Court South, the Kreiswehrersatzamt Munich, the German Armed Forces Service Center Munich, a service station, the LH Bundeswehr clothing company and the Bavarian Association of Technical Relief.

Some of the original barracks north of the Hedwig- Dransfeld Avenue have remained preserved and are among the last remnants of Munich military buildings of the 19th century.

The large main building was rented by the Munich Student 2003, rehabilitated under preservation orders by architect Christoph Maas and now serves as a student residence. The renovation work drew the City of Munich with the " Honorary Award for exemplary renovation 2005".

Today on the site remembers a war memorial to the First World War, the Bavarian railway troops. Originally created in 1922 by Karl Badberger memorial at the Dachau street was destroyed in 1945 and re- built in 1965.
