Geography

Eisgarn located in the northern Waldviertel in Lower Austria six kilometers north of Heidenreich stone. The area of ​​the municipality covers 22.49 square kilometers. 42.73 percent of the area is forested.

History

Eisgarn is a typical slash and name is derived from the old Slavic izgorje that means so much as burned- point from. The village was first mentioned in 1294. Johann von Klingenberg, who received the county Litschau as collateral for the financial support of the Habsburg Albert II, founded here in 1330 a Säkularkanonikerstift. The foundation was confirmed in 1344 by the Duke. The already mentioned in a document in 1393 at the Abbey School building still exists today and is among the oldest primary schools in Lower Austria.

Population Development
