EISPACK

EISPACK is a software library in numerical linear algebra ( computing eigenvalues and eigenvectors of matrices ), which was from 1972 to 1973 collected at Argonne National Laboratory under the direction of Brian T. Smith. The library is written in Fortran and was freely available from the beginning. The starting point was originally written in ALGOL algorithms of James H. Wilkinson. Involved in the development of EISPACK was Jack Dongarra, who was then still a student, and later played a key role in the development of LINPACK and LAPACK, the successors of EISPACK for advanced computer architectures.
