The building complex is next to the ice rink for professional sport from a second ice surface, a wide fan area, the restaurant business " EVL sports bar " and the administration building to the north of the building. Main users of the stadium is the skating club Landshut with its youth teams as well as its outsourced professional department EVL Landshut Hockey.

History

Although the history of ice hockey in Landshut dates back to the 1930s, there was in Landshut to 1957 no ice rink. With the rise of the EV Landshut in the league, however, a weather- independent training and game facility was necessary. For this reason, took place in the spring of 1957, the foundation stone of the art ice rink Landshut in its current location on Gutenbergweg next to the banks of the Isar. Already in the late autumn of the same year, much of the work was completed, so on November 10 took place the opening of the stadium against the EC Kitzbühel in front of 5000 spectators. Ten years was played on Gutenbergweg open-air hockey, before the stadium was roofed in 1967 and converted into a hall. At this time, the ice rink was Gutenbergweg the first club's ice rink in Germany. For some top games the audience figure was around 10,000 visitors at this time. Over the following years, it became increasingly difficult for the club to pay for the high operating costs. Therefore, the complex in 1981 was acquired by the city of Landshut, a " use and transfer agreement " assured the EV Landshut a regulated gaming operations.

Mid -1980s, the stadium was renovated from the ground and in the course of expansion into " Landesleistungszentrum Hockey " of the Bavarian Ice Sports Federation ( BEV ) was the construction of a second ice surface, which was indeed covered, however, remained open on three sides. The official seating capacity of the hall was 1 after the renovation of 6,750 seats, including 1,600 seats. The training hall has, according to the city a standing room capacity of 800 spectators. After structural engineer in the late 2000s found defects in the roof construction of the second ice rink, an operation of the hall on the 2010/11 season, it has been rejected that. The City Council Landshut subsequently agreed that the end of October 2010 for the nearly three million euros comprehensive general renovation of the second ice rink. The only components of the stadium, which were not replaced in the course of the renovation, is the ice itself, as well as the concrete pillars that carry the new roof. Were newly established gangs, lighting and sound equipment, displays and a cover of the hitherto open on three sides area. Furthermore, there was a reorganization of the changing rooms. The project began in spring 2011 and was completed in time for the winter season 2011/12 finished.

In December 2010, the stadium capacity has been reduced to now only 4,996 places by the City of Landshut. Among them are 1,696 seats. Trigger for the reduction was the entry into force of the new Assembly Ordinance of 2008, which contained special provisions for stadiums with a capacity of over 5000 seats. While important issues such as public address system operations center for police and rescue forces or marking escape routes posed no problems for the ice rink, the anchoring of the breakwater would have to be renewed in the general admission area. Given the low at this time viewership of the Landshut Cannibals of abandoning the costly project for the time being. After a delay the first time in 2011 planned structural changes to increase the reduced seating capacity were completed in time for the play-offs 2013/14. The city of Landshut invested around 150,000 euros in new breakwater, loudspeaker system and police operations center. Thus the maximum number of spectators rises again to 6737 (of which 1,573 seats).
