Eitel Frederick IV, Count of Hohenzollern

Eitel Frederick IV of Hohenzollern ( born September 7, 1545 Sigmaringen, † January 16, 1605 in Hechingen ) was used as Eitel Friedrich I. founder of the line and the first Count of Hohenzollern- Hechingen.

Life

Eitel Friedrich was the eldest surviving son of Count Charles I of Hohenzollern (1516-1576) from his marriage to Anna (1512-1579), daughter of Margrave Ernst of Baden-Durlach.

After his father's death in 1576 it came to the division of the parent company Hohenzollern between Eitel Friedrich and his brothers Karl and Christoph in the Hechinger, Haigerlocher and Sigmaringer lines. As Eitel Frederick I became the progenitor of the line Count of Hohenzollern - Hechingen. He was doing the actual county Zollern, the ancestral homeland, with the city of Hechingen and the monasteries Rangendingen, Saint Luzen and Stetten.

Eitel Friedrich ordered the neglected by his predecessors county council adopted a new and strict hunting and forest policy, led in due time to several uprisings.

Hechingen was determined as Residenzort There he had a palace built in the Renaissance style, and later the New Castle emerged from the. Together with his second wife in 1585 he founded the Franciscan monastery to St. Luke in Hechingen. He initiated other buildings in Hechingen, including St Lucerne monastery church, hospital and the lower tower. He made his residence into a center of culture and cultivation of music, which earned him the nickname the Magnificent.

A bronze grave plate ( 1609) in the monastery church of St. Luzen covers the heart Eitel Frederick IV The plate bears the inscription: " Ubi thesaurus meus, ibi cor meum " ("Where my treasure is, there rests my heart "; Lk 12.34 EU).

Progeny

Eitel Friedrich was married three times. He married on June 22, 1568 Veronika († 1573), daughter of Count Charles I of Ortenbourg. The marriage remained childless.

For the second time he married on November 14, 1574 Meßkirch with Sibylle ( 1558-1599 ), daughter of Count Froben Christoph von rooms, with whom he had the following children:

  • Johanna (1581-1634)

His third wife was born on March 1, 1601 Johanna († 1633), daughter of Count Philipp II von Eberstein, with whom he had no children.
