Eitel Frederick von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen

Eitel Friedrich von Hohenzollern ( born September 26, 1582 Sigmaringen, † September 19, 1625 in Castle Iburg ) was cardinal and bishop of Osnabrück.

Eitel Friedrich was born as the fourth son of Count Charles II of Hohenzollern and his first wife Euphorosyne of Oettingen -Wallerstein. The family was raised in 1623 in the imperial counts.

Eitel Friedrich was at the age of six years, the minor orders, studied at the Jesuit University in Rome, the Pontifical Gregorian University, later to be called. 1610 Dean of the Cologne Cathedral Chapter, 1612 Provost, he soon became one of the most important advisers to the elector of Cologne, Ferdinand of Bavaria. His nomination as Archbishop of Salzburg in 1619 failed. 1621 he was appointed and a member of the Pontifical Mission Congregation " de Propaganda Fide " to the Cardinal.

Eitel Friedrich was elected on April 18, 1623 Bishop of Osnabrück, however, resided in the castle Iburg. It was opened in 1574 and the first Catholic Bishop of the Bishopric. In 1624, he took possession of the diocese of Osnabrück. He began extensive reforms carried out: Still in 1624 he introduced the Gregorian calendar. In the same year he gave the Jesuit Gymnasium Carolinum. With the introduction of the Office of the Vicar General, he initiated an administrative reform in the diocese of line. His reform work was continued after his death by Cardinal Franz Wilhelm von Wartenberg.
