The lying in Egypt El- Feridan Bridge ( also: al - Firdan Bridge, Arabic كوبري الفردان Kūbrī al - Firdān ) is the longest swing bridge in the world. The approximately 12 km north of Ismailia located bridge enables a single-track railway line and a two-lane road connection via the Suez Canal. The bridge is closed twice a day for three hours.

Technical Parameters

The span of the 12.8 meter wide bridge structure is 340 meters. History

The first bridge at this location was built in 1942 during the Second World War military-strategic reasons, replaced a ferry that had crossed the north channel, and created a solid connection to the Sinai web. This bridge was in 1963 replaced by a new building, which was destroyed in the 1967 Six Day War. Replacement was not created until November 14, 2001, when the present bridge was opened.
