Elaine Trepper

Elaine Gilley ( born December 1, 1955) is a Namibian SWAPO politician.

Life

Elaine Gilley was as a teacher in Lüderitz since 1985. She was active in the anti -apartheid movement and joined in 1991 the South West Africa People's Organization ( SWAPO ) to. She was involved in Namibia 's liberation movement. After Namibia's independence in 1990, she was in the teachers' union Namibia National Teachers Union ( Nantu ) and 1998 active board member ..

1991 Gilley was chosen for the SWAPO in Windhoek West and was responsible for the mobility and lobbying their party. In 1994 she was Branch Coordinator and 1998 District Coordinator.

In 1998 she became a member of the City Council of Windhoek. She was elected Deputy Mayor of Mathew Shikongo and chairman of the City Council in 1999. From 2000 to 2003 she was a member of the Management Committee Council of Windhoek. From 2004 to 2008 she was deputy mayor again. In addition, she was active at the national level for the development of infrastructures and of Social Affairs and Health in Namibia. In 2009 she was elected the first Chairman of the Management Committee.

Elaine Gilley was dated 2 December 2010 ( Appointed January 17, 2011 ) up to your deselection on November 26, 2012 Mayor of Windhoek. She was the first black mayor in the history of Windhoek.
