Matheus Shikongo

Matheus Kristof Shikongo ( born June 26, 1950 in Ondangwa ) is a Namibian SWAPO politician and served from 2000 to 1993, and November 25, 2010 ruling First Mayor of the city of Windhoek, the capital of Namibia.

Life

Matheus Shikongo comes from Ondangwa in the Oshana region. He received his education at the Ongwediva High School and a Diploma in Personnel Management and Marketing. Shikongo initially worked in a local trading company, before moving to Windhoek in 1987 and worked mainly in Katutura here.

Since 1993 he is member of the Windhoek City Council. 1993 and between 2000 and 2010 was Matheus Shikongo first mayor of Windhoek. He holds this office in the 4th term of office, making it one of the longest serving mayor of Africa. Shikongo is also the first black African Mayor of Windhoek. On 6 July 2000, he and Eberhard Diepgen (then reigning Mayor of Berlin) signed a twinning between Berlin and Windhoek.

From 1998 to 2000 he was president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Namibia ( NCCI ).

Matheus Shikongo is CEO of Namibia Marine Resources and member of the boards of various companies, inter alia, of the Namibian national power supply company " Namibia Power Corporation " based in Windhoek and Kumwe Investment Holdings, Welwitschia Insurance Brokers, Santam Bank Windhoek and Metropolitan Life Namibia.
