Eleanor Thornton

Eleanor Velasco Thornton (* 1880 in London, † December 30, 1915 ) was a British high-society members and an art model. She was ( German: Thorn ) also by her nickname " Thorn " known.

She stood model for the sculptor Charles Sykes, and was the model for his Spirit of Ecstasy, the mascot of Rolls- Royce vehicles. She was the secretary and mistress of a married British aristocrat John Douglas -Scott - Montagu, 2nd Baron Montagu of Beaulieu.

Thornton came on December 30, 1915, the sinking of the British passenger steamer Persia killed. The ship was torpedoed in the Eastern Mediterranean on the route to India by the German submarine U -38 under the command of Captain Max Valentiner without warning.
