Elections in Serbia

The Republic of Serbia is a parliamentary democracy since 1990. The legislation emanates from the Parliament ( Народна скупштина / Narodna Skupština ), next to also has the President ( Председник / Predsednik ) some powers.

The 250 members of the unicameral ( Narodna Republike Srbije Skupština ) are elected every four years.

Presidential elections

The president is elected every five years.

On 28-29. October 2006 was held a referendum on the new constitution.

Local elections will often coincide with national elections.

Election Commission

The composition, powers and functions of the Republic Electoral Commission of Serbia ( Републичка изборна комисија / Republička izborna komisija ) are contained in Articles 28 to 35 of the Law on the Election of People's Deputies regulated.

Composition

The constant composition of the Commission consists of a president and 16 other members, as well as a secretary and a statistics officer, who have no voting rights. The President and Members of the Commission are proposed by Members and appointed by Parliament for a term of four years. For the period of elections, the Commission is extended by a representative from each approved dialing list ( party list ).

The President, the Commissioners and the Secretary have as an alternate. The President and the Commissioners and their deputies shall be lawyers and must not be related to each other.
