The Two-Tone Hardwood binding tensioner ( Electrophaes corylata ), also known as Hardwood binding tensioner or Linden blade tensioner, is a butterfly (moth ) from the family of the tensioner ( Geometridae ).

Features

Butterfly

The moths reach a wingspan of about 22 to 30 millimeters. The forewings show a change from dark brown, whitish and reddish brown napkins. In some specimens prevail olive colors. The binding agent is strongly narrowed and may sometimes be interrupted. The outer transverse line limits the midfield and is noticeably jagged. The Saumfeld is obscured and is crossed by a strongly serrated white wave line. The Apex is a bright spot. The hind wings shimmer gray and are provided with a dark transverse line and a central spot.

Caterpillar, and chrysalis

Adults caterpillars have a yellowish or greenish staining. On the back there are red-brown to black -brown spots, which are designed particularly clearly at the front and rear end. Such spots are also sometimes present on the ventral side.

The doll is yellow-brown and shows dark brown spots and stripes.

Geographical distribution and occurrence

The distribution area of the two-colored Hardwood binding tensioner ranges from Spain to Western and Central Europe to Japan. In the north of the extension until after Fennoscandia enough, in the south, to Italy and the Balkans. However, it is missing in Portugal and Greece. The type is preferred to be found in beech, birch, bog and mixed forests, bushy at forest edges and in extensive orchards and semi- dry grasslands.

Way of life

The main flight period of the crepuscular and nocturnal moths covers the months of May to July. Visit and artificial light sources. Among the food plants of the polyphagous caterpillars include, for example Linde species ( Tilia ), silver birch (Betula pendula), rowan (Sorbus aucuparia ), bird cherry (Prunus padus ), blackthorn (Prunus spinosa ) and hawthorn (Crataegus ), or hazel (Corylus ). They live from June to September. The pupa overwinters.

The Two-Tone Hardwood binding clamper is in all German federal states and is run on the Red List of Threatened Species as not at risk.
