Larentiinae

Yellow ocher blade tensioner ( Camptogramma bilineata )

The Larentiinae are a large subfamily of the tensioner ( Geometridae ), which are counted among the moths within the butterflies. Over 5,700 species worldwide are currently expected to this subfamily. About 250 species occur in Central Europe.

Features

Size, color and pattern of the moths are very different. Most species have a proboscis in order to consume food. Many species live in deciduous trees, at other herbaceous plants. The eggs usually belong to the flat type, ie they are laterally bonded to the surface of the food plant. The caterpillars have no extensions in general.

System

Within the subfamily are depending on the author still up to 22 distinguished tribes whose scope and validity are still controversial. Therefore, only occurring in Central Europe genera are listed.
