Features

Butterfly

The wingspan of the butterfly is 24 to 32 millimeters, with the females move to the lower size limit. There are two very distinct color morphs. The wings of the bright morphs are in the color white and show a very distinct black or brown drawing. In particular, the wires are very clearly created. The outer transverse line on the fore wings has a distinctive kink in the direction of the seam. The Submarginalregion is slightly darkened. On the also white-colored hind wings, the dark outer transverse line of the front wing continues. The fringes are alternately spotted brown and white. Specific type is the wing shape, which is characterized by a very acute apex on the front and rear wings. The other color morph has a yellow-brown color, is occasionally dusted slightly reddish and shows only a very vague drawing. This morphs the transverse lines are whitish.

Egg, caterpillar

The brownish yellow egg is laterally strongly notched. It is 0.8 mm long and 0.5 mm wide.

Young caterpillars are yellow-gray to green- gray and have white-yellow back and side stripes, all of which are bordered by dark brown stripes. The neck is mottled light brown and light. The Nachschieber wide. Adults caterpillars are walzig stretched, yellowish green, striped indistinct black brown and show in the bright strip back a fine dark line, next to a wide gray-green strip which is bounded below by a jagged - sharp, fine dark line. On the broad, bright, against the abdomen to darkening sidelines closes above a wide dark line. All stripes and lines run irregularly finely jagged.

Geographical distribution and habitat

The species occurs in southeastern and eastern Europe to the Ukraine very locally before. In Hungary and in Lower Austria it is represented by the yellow-brown form. It is to be found on warm skimmed lawns, but also on moist meadows.

Way of life

Schistostege decussata is one generation per year, the moths fly in June and July. They are predominantly diurnal. The caterpillars live from April to June. Main food plants are Euphorbia species ( Euphorbia ). When breeding and dandelion (Taraxacum ) is assumed. The egg overwinters.

Systematics and Taxonomy
