Criticism

In December 1975, the head of the CIA station in Athens, Richard Welch was murdered by the terrorist group November 17. A claim of responsibility has been sent to the Eleftherotypia, which published it the following day. Until the arrest of the members of the terrorist group in 2002, communications were still several times the same published in the newspaper Eleftherotypia. Other left-wing extremist terrorist groups such as ELA and small anarchist groups sent their letter excluding the Eleftherotypia. Even today, terrorist groups set preferably with Eleftherotypia in connection to confess to bombings in Athens. Critics accuse the newspaper before they would publish such a letter of confession and manifestos uncritically, and that she has it until 2001 always failed to condemn acts of terrorism. As editors of the Eleftherotypia have distinguished themselves by criticism of anti-terrorism laws around the world, the newspaper of the support for terrorism has been accused many times.

In November 2005, Athens Court of Appeal found the publisher ( Tegopoulos -Verlag), the editor Serafim Fintanidis and two other employees of the Eleftherotypia guilty with an article about the trial of the terrorist group November 17 to have the prosecutor Christos Lambrou slandered. They were sentenced to pay 60,000 euros depending on Lambrou.
