Eleonore Marie of Anhalt-Bernburg

Eleonore Marie of Anhalt- Bernburg ( born August 7, 1600 Amberg, † July 17, 1657 in Strelitz ) was a princess of Anhalt- Bernburg and by marriage Duchess of Mecklenburg- Güstrow.

Life

Eleonore Marie was a daughter of Prince Christian I of Anhalt -Bernburg (1568-1639) from his marriage to Anna (1579-1624), daughter of Count Arnold III. of Bentheim. Under the name The resistant Eleonore Marie was a co-founder and second head of the Academy of Loyal, considered the female counterpart of the fruit -bearing Society.

She married on 7 May 1626 Güstrow Duke Johann Albrecht II of Mecklenburg- Güstrow ( 1590-1636 ). After the death of her husband took over Eleonore Marie, as specified in the will of the Duke, the regent for her young son. Even after three days, she was disputed the regency and the guardianship of Gustav Adolf of her brother Duke Adolf Friedrich. Eleonore Marie objected to the claim, but on 4 May 1636 under the stands threw Adolf Friedrich.

Adolf Friedrich Protested against the will of his brother one, largely replaced the government in Güstrow and left only Andreas Buggenhagen in office. Against the Protestant church Guestrower part of the country he was going massive. 1637 the crown prince was also forcibly separated from his Calvinist mother. At the private church services Eleonore Marie's none of remaining in the country Calvinists were allowed to participate more and Duchess widow was referred to her widow's residence after Strelitz. Emperor Ferdinand III. decreed in favor Eleonore Marie, but sat Adolf Friedrich continuous processes, involving foreign powers in the matter one. Eleonore Marie renounced in 1645 finally on their rights and died twelve years later on her jointure in Strelitz. She was buried in the Cathedral Guestrower.
