Elías Jaua

José Elías Jaua Milano (born 1969 in Caucagua, Miranda ) is a Venezuelan politician. He was from 2010 to 2012 Vice- President of Venezuela under Hugo Chavez and was appointed by him as Foreign Minister on 16 January 2013.

Life

Jaua, a graduate of the Universidad Central de Venezuela and later sociology lecturer, was since 2000 in various positions of the Chavez government operates, including as Minister of Economics and as Minister of Agriculture and Land ( Agricultura y Tierras ). He was appointed in early January 2010 as the Vice President of the Council of Ministers for the economically -producing sector. As Vice President Ramón Carrizales resigned on 25 January 2010, Chávez Jaua appointed to Carrizales successor.

On 11 October 2012, after the presidential election, Chavez Nicolás Maduro appointed to succeed Jaua in the office of Vice-President. Jaua was a candidate in the gubernatorial election in the state of Miranda, where he ought to compete against the defeated opposition presidential candidate Henrique Capriles.
