Elisabeth Marbury

Elisabeth Marbury ( born June 19, 1856 in New York City; † January 22, 1933 ibid ) was an American theatrical and literary agent. As a producer, she represented well-known artists and writers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including Oscar Wilde, George Bernard Shaw, Cole Porter, Sir James Matthew Barrie.

Elizabeth Bessy Marbury grew up in a respected and wealthy merchant family. Their ancestors - including Anne Hutchinson - were among the first settlers of English origin in the state of New York. Marbury was never married, but lived openly what many observers saw as a lesbian relationship with interior designer Elsie de Wolfe, later known as Lady Mendl, together.
