Elisabeth of Lorraine

Elisabeth Renata of Lorraine ( born October 9, 1574 Nancy, † January 4, 1635 in Braunau am Inn) was the first wife of Elector Maximilian I of Bavaria.

The Lorraine Princess Elisabeth Renata, daughter of Duke Charles III. of Lorraine and his wife, Claudia of Valois, was married on February 6, 1595 Nancy with her cousin Maximilian I of Bavaria. The 40 -year compound remained childless. Elizabeth was involved with her husband, especially on caritativem area.

Beginning of the year 1635, the Duke and Duchess of fear of imminent Pestgefahr in the monastery Ranshofen at Braunau had to take refuge at the Inn, where Elizabeth died on 4 January. Her grave is now in the electoral grave lay in St. Michael in Munich. Her heart and entrails were buried separately and are located in the chapel Altöttings.
