Elisabeth of Romania

Elisabeth of Romania ( born October 12, 1894 Peles Castle, Romania, † November 14, 1956 in Cannes, France) was a Romanian princess of the House of Hohenzollern -Sigmaringen and later Queen Elizabeth of Greece.

Life

Princess Elisabeth of Romania was born in 1894 at Castle Pelesch as the daughter of the Romanian Crown Prince Ferdinand, the later King Ferdinand I of Romania ( 1865-1927 ) and Princess Marie of Edinburgh, Princess of Great Britain and Ireland ( 1875-1938 ).

On February 27, 1921 she married the Greek Crown Prince George in Bucharest. After the abdication of his father, King Constantine I, ascended Crown Prince George on September 27, 1922 as George II, King of the Hellenes, the throne. After the proclamation of the Republic on March 25, 1924 left King George II Greece.

King George II was restored to his ancestral throne rights by decree of the National Assembly and by national referendum of November 3, 1935. He died on April 1, 1947 in Athens.

The childless marriage between King George II and Queen Elizabeth of Greece was divorced on July 6, 1935 in Bucharest. Queen Elizabeth of Greece died on November 14, 1956 in Cannes, France.
